Aging with Pride LGBTQ+ Cultural Awareness Trainer

Position Description

We need volunteers to assist in designing and delivering LGBTQ+ competency training sessions to staff at local senior-serving institutions (such as retirement homes, seniors’ recreation centres, home-care services, long-term care facilities and hospices). We have already developed several training modules, and delivered them at a variety of local local senior-serving institutions.

Volunteers must be articulate and comfortable speaking before groups of people. Volunteers must have a good appreciation of the needs of older people.

Visit us on the Web.

Impact Statement

SPECTRUM’s Aging with Pride Committee works to create support and provide education in response to the needs of our LGBTQ+ older adults.  This work is critical if we want to feel safe with service providers and institutional settings as we age.

Time Commitment

The time commitment varies. The minimum commitment involves attending a two-hour Committee meeting each month; in months when training sessions are to be delivered, there would be an extra four hours per month.

We are asking for a commitment to this position of at least 12 months.

Training Details

Volunteers will work with experienced trainers to become familiar with the process of delivering the training sessions.
