International Services Team Member

Position Description

International Services Team members will assist at social events and help in planning social events for LGBTQ-identified newcomers to Canada. Volunteers will provide valuable referrals to agencies that can provide material assistance in the form of housing, clothing, etc. and legal assistance.

Good social skills are essential. Skill in languages other than English is a definite asset, but not required.  See our webpage.

NOTE: Before we interview you for this volunteer position, we ask that you come to at least TWO of the social events so that you can see whether this particular program is something that you would enjoy.

Impact Statement

By volunteering with SPECTRUM’s International Services Team you can assist LGBTQ-identified newcomers by providing a safe social environment for them and help them with referrals for material and legal assistance.

Time Commitment

Most of our work with newcomers happens at our monthly event, Rainbow Multicultural Connect, which happens on the second Thursday of every month. We also encourage the newcomers to attend Converse and Connect, a discussion group which happens on the fourth Wednesday of every month. Both of these events are 2 hours long so this amounts to 4 hours/month. Depending on the needs of the newcomers who attend it may be helpful to attend other programs offered by SPECTRUM.

We are asking for a commitment to this position of at least 4 months.

Training Details

Volunteers will learn procedures by working with experienced members of the International Services Team.
