International Services Team Member President
Be a Volunteer!
SPECTRUM is built on the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. From the volunteer Board of Directors, to event organizers and group facilitators, to special projects, research, staffing drop-in hours, administrative work and much more, nothing happens at SPECTRUM not created by volunteer work.
International Services Team members will assist at social events and help in planning social events for LGBTQ-identified newcomers to Canada. Volunteers will provide valuable referrals to agencies that can provide material assistance in the form of housing, clothing, etc. and legal assistance.
Good social skills are essential. Skill in languages other than English is a definite asset, but not required. See our webpage.
NOTE: Before we interview you for this volunteer position, we ask that you come to at least TWO of the social events so that you can see whether this particular program is something that you would enjoy.
By volunteering with SPECTRUM’s International Services Team you can assist LGBTQ-identified newcomers by providing a safe social environment for them and help them with referrals for material and legal assistance.
Most of our work with newcomers occurs at the twice monthly Newcomers Group on the 2nd Thursday and the 4th Wednesday of the month from 7 – 9 PM – as well as the weekly Friday games evenings from 7 – 11 PM. Depending on which of these events you assist at, the time commitment can range from 4 hours a month to 20 hours a month.
We are asking for a commitment to this position of at least 4 months.
Volunteers will learn procedures by working with experienced members of the International Services Team.
