SPECTRUM’s Rainbow Diversity Training is a service that helps organizations along the path towards becoming more open and welcoming, as well as equitable and accessible to persons of all sexual and gender diversities, both to clients and employees of the organization.

Why It Matters

All minority groups encounter challenges.  Some challenges are unique to sexual/gender diversity.  For example, for some people, sexual orientation or gender identity is an invisible stigmatized identity.

Disclosure can entail risk, which carries stress with it.  Becoming a more open and welcoming organization can improve interactions with both clients and employees who are LGBTQ identified.

How It Works

We consult with your organization to tailor a training workshop to your needs.  You tell us the length of the workshop that you want, the number of employees and volunteers who will attend, and whether they are administrators or front-line staff.

We also work with you to create a set of case-study scenarios appropriate to your organization.   At the training workshop your employees will work on these case studies in small break-out groups.

Our Team

The Rainbow Diversity Training workshops are facilitated by volunteers of SPECTRUM – Waterloo Region’s Rainbow Community Space.  We are a not-for-profit charitable Canadian corporation. We work closely with several social-service agencies in Waterloo Region.

Basic Fee

One Training Workshop = $500 (a workshop up to 3 hours in length).  A big part of the fee is for the preparatory work, in which we tailor each workshop to the needs of the organization.  How to make payments to SPECTRUM.

Sliding Scale Fee

We may be able to offer a reduction for not-for-profit organizations, community associations, and grass-roots groups.  We consider how closely the organization works with the LGBTQ community, the strength of their support for the LGBTQ community (programming and individual work), and their financial circumstances.

Our Workshops

We offer a generic workshop (LGBTQ2 Training 101) that can be tailored to the needs of your organization.

We are in the process of creating a suite of workshops for specific sectors
