Donate to SPECTRUM

As a non-profit volunteer-driven community centre, SPECTRUM relies on your donations and assistance.

Please note: SPECTRUM is not yet a charitable organization, which means SPECTRUM cannot issue CHARITABLE DONATION RECEIPTs.  We’re working toward earning charitable status, but until that time, your donations cannot be claimed/recognized on your personal or corporate taxes at year end.

Ways to Donate

Making a cash donation to SPECTRUM is easy. You can:

  • Make a cash donation in person to any SPECTRUM Board Member.
  • Send SPECTRUM a cheque or money order made out to “SPECTRUM”

From time to time, SPECTRUM accepts donation of items the organization needs. SPECTRUM only has limited ability to accept items, and used items in acceptable shape, so we maintain a Wish List of new and gently-used desired items, eg:

  • LGBTQ-themed DVDs and books for the resource lending library.
  • Exhibit/trade show display equipment
  • Sturdy yet lightweight cart
  • Laptops and software (with legal licenses)

From time to time, it may be possible to dedicate your support to a specific SPECTRUM program rather than to the organizational budget. In general, this is not a preferred method, because it detracts from the overall health of the centre in favour of one aspect – but we’re open to suggestions.
The act of giving personal property by name in a Last Will and Testament is referred to as a “bequest.” Learn more about making a bequest to SPECTRUM below.

Make a Bequest to SPECTRUM

Financial assistance is essential to support and sustain a community group. Many people generously give their time, energy and money to their favourite local charity and are unaware that by leaving a gift in their will, they can continue to help the charity.

SPECTRUM, Waterloo region’s first and only rainbow community space needs your help. SPECTRUM needs financial assistance from you to continue its valuable work. What better way to thank SPECTRUM for its ongoing work, events, venue, programmes and assistance to all ages in the rainbow community? If every person in the Waterloo region made a will and included a bequest of just $100, thousands of dollars would flow to the sustainability of SPECTRUM nd support of LGBTQ causes in the Waterloo region.

Think of SPECTRUM when making your will. Please know that without a will, there is no mechanism in place to make a bequest to SPECTRUM.

Here are the simple steps:

  1. Set up an appointment with your financial analyst or lawyer and include SPECTRUM in your bequests
  2. Set up an appointment with a SPECTRUM representative or advise SPECTRUM designate to let them know of this decision
  3. Include SPECTRUM in your will with one of the following choices:
“I give, devise and bequeath to SPECTRUM the sum of $ ___________, a description of asset or a fixed percentage of the estate.”
    OR
“I give, devise and bequeath to SPECTRUM, in the memory of ___________________________________ who has passed, the sum of $___________, a description of asset or a fixed percentage of the estate.”
    OR
“I give, devise and bequeath to SPECTRUM, to honour _________________________________ for their volunteer work the sum of $______________, a description of asset or a fixed percentage of the estate.”
    OR
“I give, devise and bequeath to SPECTRUM for a special event ___________________________ the sum of $____________, a description of asset or a fixed percentage of the estate.”
    OR
“I give, devise and bequeath to SPECTRUM for the following programming _______________________ the sum of $_______________, a description of asset or a fixed percentage of the estate.”
  4. Cheques, money orders or drafts payable to SPECTRUM currently located at 283 Duke St W, Unit 210, Kitchener ON, N2H 3X7.

Make a difference in the lives of our rainbow community. Leaving a legacy is a way to ensure that SPECTRUM will continue to provide and sustain a venue, programmes for all ages and events for all ages, for the LGBTQ community, their friends and families. Change people’s lives!

Thank you!
