Pride 2021

Pride with SPECTRUM

For Pride month, SPECTRUM was excited to work with many great community partners to present a series of events and activities that both celebrated members of our 2SLGBTQ+ communities and promoted equal rights and visibility.

Focus Groups

SPECTRUM recently surveyed our volunteers, program participants and the community at large. We heard from several people that they sometimes felt “not queer enough” to attend Pride events or visit 2SLGBTQ+ spaces. SPECTRUM and the Waterloo Region Rainbow Coalition would like to do a better job of understanding the needs of traditionally underserved members of LGBTQ2+ communities.

The information we gathered from participants in these groups will help to inform the development of future events, programs and services.

Social Events

(Virtual) Waterloo Walking Tour

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University of Waterloo's Glow Center, the City of Waterloo Museum and GLOW collaborated to hold a virtual walking tour of UW's campus explaining the history of Canada's longest-lived Canadian 2SLGBTQ+ university group.

THEMUSEUM Variety Show

SPECTRUM provided one of the acts for THEMUSEUM’s Virtual Variety Show, which was hosted by Miss Drew. One of our founders, Jim Parrott, shared his love of the harp and talk about the unique needs of aging 2SLGBTQ+ folks.

Pride Trivia

Presented in partnership with the Waterloo Public Library, we had an evening of virtual Pride trivia. Participants tested their knowledge of queer pop culture, and 2SLGBTQ+ history.
